The pre-quarterfinal stage of the World Boxing Championships begins at Baku in Azerbaijan today. Five Indian pugilists, Devendro Singh Laishram, Jai Bhagwan, Manoj Kumar, Vikas Krishan and Dinesh Kumar are all set to box in their respective categories to book a place in the last eight stage. Devendro Laishram will play Carlos Quipo of Ecuador in the 49 kilogram Light flyweight category, while Jai Bhagwan will slug it out against David Oliver Joyce of Ireland in the 60 kilogram Lightweight section. Manoj Kumar will play against Chinese Qing Hu in the 64 kilogram Light welterweight category and Vikas Krishan faces Onder Sipal of Turkey in the 69 kilogram welterweight division. In the 81 kilogram light heavyweight category, Dinesh Kumar will lock horns with Australian Damien Duncan Hooper.
