Indian Army earned the goodwill of public of Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir by unveiling several welfare projects for the war widows, handicapped soldiers and Armed Forces veterans of these states on the concluding day of the two day Army Mela organised by the Rising Star Corps at Pathankot on sunday.In a special public ceremony GOC 9 Corps, Lt Gen AK Choudhary felicitated Hony Lt Joginder Singh, father of Lt Navdeep Singh of Gurdaspur District who made the supreme sacrifice while fighting the terrorists in Jammu & Kashmir, recently. Besides this, 25 wounded Army soldiers were presented with modified scooters and deserving wards of war widows were awarded education scholarships. Wheel Chairs, artificial limbs and sewing machines were also provided to the needy veterans.Gurdaspur, MP, Pratap Singh Bajwa presented a cheque of Rs 11 Lakh out of MP Local Area Development scheme for purchase of a modified ambulance for the benefit of veterans. Chairman Sri Sai Group of Institutions, SK Punj, assured to provide free education and hostel facilities to wards of all martyrs in all courses run in the institution.
