Indian Army Chief arrives in Kathmandu on three-day visit to Nepal

India's Chief of the Army Staff, General V. K. Singh arrived in Kathmandu on Monday on a three-day good-will visit to Nepal on the invitation of his Nepalese counterpart General Chhatra Man Singh Gurung. According to an official release, the Indian Army Chief is scheduled to interact with Nepalese Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal, Defence Minister Bidhya Bhandari and his Nepalese counterpart General Chatra Man Singh Gurung during the visit. General Singh is also scheduled to visit various Nepal Army training establishments during his stay. Gen Singh will receive the honorary title of General of Nepal Army, a reciprocal arrangement in practice between the Army chiefs of the two countries since the mid-sixties. Nepal's President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav will confer the honorary rank of the General of Nepal Army at a special investiture ceremony on Wednesday. Nepal Army Chief General Gurung was conferred the honorary rank of General of the Indian Army by the Indian President during his visit to India in December 2009. AIR Kathmandu Correspondent reports that the visit of General V. K.Singh comes eleven months after his predecessor General Deepak Kapur who was also conferred the title of the General of Nepal Army.
