Indian Army celebrating its 64 anniversary

Indian Army is celebrating its 64 anniversary today. It was on this day that Indian General K MCariappa took over as commander in chief of Armed forces in 1949. The President, the Prime Minister, the Defence Minister and the Chief of Army Staff have greeted the Army on this occassion. The Supreme Commander of Forces, President Pratibha Devisingh Patil said in her message that the Indian Army have played a pivotal role in nation building and displayed high standards of excellence in all tasks entrusted to it. She exuded confidence that the Indian Army is fully prepared to face all eventualities.

The Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh said that the army's valour , professionalism and committment to duty command nation's respect. Praising the Army, Dr Singh said that it has defended the motherland in an exemplary manner against external threat and assisting civil authorities during calamities.

The Defence Minister Mr A K Antony, praising the Army for assistance in relief and rescue operations during natural calamities, saluted the brave jawans for guarding borders under difficult conditions.

The Army Chief General V K Singh called upon each of the Army men to continue performing their duties with resolve, keeping the interest of the nation and army in the forefront.
