In Commonwealth games India earned the first gold of the day five in archery. The Indian women's team consisting of Dola banrajee, Deepika Kumari and Bombayala Devi defeated England 207-206 in the recurve category. Earlier Indian team has dumped Malaysia in the semifinals. 43 gold medals are up for grabs in today’s events of Archery, Athletics, Cycling, Gymnastics, swimming, shooting, Squash, wrestling and weightlifting.AIR correspondent reports the host is hoping for Gold in Shooting, wrestling and weightlifting. Two gold will be decided in weightlifting and in 85 Kg men`s category India`s Chandrakant Mali will be in hunt for Gold at Jawaharlal Nehru sports complex. In shooting events 5 gold will be decided and interesting contests will be witnessed at the Karni Singh Ranges. In 50 meters rifle 3 positioning event India had won both gold and silver in Melbourne games. Similarly Single 25 meter rapid fire pistol and 10 meter Air pistol men events India had bagged both Gold and silver in Melbourne. In wrestling events 3 gold are up for grabs in 51, 59 and 67 Kg women categories. India’s women wresters Alka Tomar and Babita Kumary will be trying their luck for gold. Maximum 11 gold medals will be decided in swimming followed by 8 in athletics, 5 in Gymnastics, 3 in cycling and 2 each in Archery and Squash events. In Tennis Somdev Devvarman and Sania Mirza will be on court for their Single Semi Finals and pairs of Mahesh Bhupathi and L.A.Paes and R.M.Bopanna and S.K.Devvarman will be playing men`s double semi finals. In Badminton matches for Bronze and gold will also be played.
