Indian and Chinese PMs likely to meet on sidelines of ASEAN summit

The Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and his Chinese counterpart Wen Jiabao are likely to meet on the sidelines of the ASEAN summit in Thailand this month. Official sources in New Delhi said that they do not rule out the meeting between the two leaders. Earlier, the Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao during his meeting with Petroleum Minister Mulri Deora had expressed his keenness to meet Dr Singh. The External Affairs Minister Mr. S M Krishna and his Chinese counterpart Yang Jiechi will also meet in the last week of this month on the fringes of the trilateral meeting between India, China and Russia. The Hot line between the Prime Ministers of the two countries is also likely to be set up soon. The sources say that though boundary question is a major issue, the relations between India and China are not solely focused on it. The two countries do not want their ties to be diluted or determined by the border issue alone. They had agreed that the vexed boundary issue will not be allowed to come in the way of the two countries moving ahead in their relations and this is likely to be reaffirmed at the meeting between the leadership of the two countries.. Sources point out those Chinese incursions which take place due to difference of perception about the boundary is not a new phenomenon. They stress the fact that there have been no exchange of fire or altercation and peace has been maintained along the LAC for last three decades.
