Indian activist Kulandei Francis has been selected for this year's Ramon Magsaysay Award along with five others from Bangladesh, Cambodia,Indonesia, the Philippines, and Taiwan. According to the announcement on the website of the Ramon Magsaysay foundation, Kulandei Francis is being recognised for “his visionary zeal, his profound faith in community energies, and his sustained programmes in pursuing the holistic economic empowerment of thousands of women and their families in rural India. Mr. Francis Kulandei has been honoured for his work in transforming the lives of people through his Integrated Village Development Project in Krishnagiri district of Tamil Nadu which was started in 1979.
