Indian Ambassador to UAE seeks assistance for repatriation of body of killed fisherman

The Indian Ambassador to UAE M.K.Lokesh has sought assistance from UAE authorities for quick repatriation of the body of the Indian fisherman killed in the firing by US naval ship near Jebel Ali port in Dubai. The condition of the three injured Indian fishermen is stable at Sheikh Rashid Hospital in Dubai. The Indian Ambassador to UAE visited the injured . The postmortem of the body of the fisherman killed in the firing was conducted yesterday. The forensic report after the post mortem is awaited. The post mortem and the forensic report will then be sent to the public prosecutors who will then take a call on whether to do the autopsy again or allow the repatriation of the mortal remains of the deceased.Once the death certificate is handed over to the Indian consulate in Dubai, the repatriation of the body of the killed Indian fishermen will be expedited. The Dubai Police Commissioner Dhahi Khalifan told that it is being treated as a murder case. He added according to the testimony, the Indian fishermen were not warned to move away from the US Ship and they were fired upon near Jebel Ali port. He added that nobody was arrested because the ship moved into the international waters after the shooting. The US navy refueling ship USNS Rappahannock had fired upon the UAE registered fishing boat carrying four Indian and two Emirati national aboard on Monday off the UAE coast in which one Indian fisherman was killed and three others were injured. The US Deputy Secretary of State , William Burns spoke to the UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Anwar Mohammad Gargash on phone in Abu Dhabi and expressed regret over the firing. He said investigations were on to know the cause of what he called regrettable and unintentional incident.
