India have lifted their second ICC Cricket World Cup. The victory in the premier cricket tournament comes after a gap of 28 years. The whole country is rejoicing the victory by bursting crackers and distributing sweets.In a nerve-wrecking final at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai today, India beat co-hosts Sri Lanka by an emphatic margin of six wickets. Chasing a challenging target of 275 for a win, India achieved the win in 48.2 overs. Mahendra Singh Dhoni played a brilliant captain's knock with an unbeaten 91 off 79 balls, while Yuvraj Singh was not out on 21. Yuvraj has been named as Player of the World Cup. Earlier, Gautam Gambhir hit a magnificent 97 off 122 balls. The partnership of 109 runs between Gambhir and Dhoni helped India recover and put the team towards the victory path. India lifted their first-ever Cricket World Cup, way back in 1983 when they beat the West Indies in a sixty-over a side final at Lord's. Earlier, electing to bat, Sri Lanka made 274 for six in the stipulated 50 overs. Former Lankan skipper Mahela Jayawardene hit an unbeaten 103 off only 88 balls. President Pratibha Patil and her Sri Lankan counter-part Mahinda Rajapaksha are among the high-profile personalities who watched the India-Sri Lanka World Cup final match at a fully packed Wankhede stadium.Union Minister Kapil Sibal, business tycoon Mukesh Ambani and a number of Bollywood film personalities including Actor Aamir Khan and southern superstar Rajnikant were also present to cheer up Dhoni's men in blue.
