India wins Davis Cup Tennis Group 1 relegation play-off<br/>

India have won the Davis Cup Tennis Group 1 relegation play-off tie against New Zealand by taking an unassilable 3-0 lead. At Chandigarh today, Vishnu Vardhan clinched the second Singles against the Kiwi Number One player, Jose Statham, in four sets 6-2, 6-7, 6-4, 6-2. Vardhan was leading by two sets to one when play was stopped yesterday due to bad light. The victory gave India a two-nil lead as Yuki Bhambri had yesterday won the first Singles against Daniel King-Turner. Later in the crucial Doubles, Vishnu Vardhan combined with Divij Sharan to edge past the Kiwi duo of Michael Venus and Daniel King-Tuner 7-6, 4-6, 6-3, 6-7, 6-3 in the marathon match which lasted three hours and 52 minutes. The result meant that India will stay in the Asia/Oceania Group in the 2013 season and will strive to regain entry into the elite 16-team World Group.
