India has won the Davis Cup Asia/Oceania Group I first round play-off by 5-0. The Indian youngsters won last two dead rubbers against New Zealand at Chandigarh today clean sweeping the New Zealand.Yuki Bhambri and Sanam Singh won their respective reverse singles today after India had already avoided relegation into Group II on Saturday by taking an unassailable 3-0 lead. Bhambri, who had won the first match against Daniel King-Turner on Friday, defeated Jose Statham in the fourth match of the contest which the Indian won 2-6, 7-5, 7-6(5).Local boy Sanam Singh, who replaced Vishnu Vardhan for the final match of the tie, ousted Artem Sitak in straight sets in the final dead rubber. Sanam drubbed the Kiwi 6-4, 6-1. Sitam, too, who replaced King-Turner, supposed to play the match.
