India will respond firmly, effectively to unprovoked firing by Pak: FS

New Delhi has said it will respond firmly and retaliate effectively to any unprovoked firing by Pakistani at Line of Control. Briefing reporters in New Delhi this evening on Pakistani shelling, Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar said India will not let its guard down. <br/><br/>He, however, said India is committed to maintain peace and tranquility at the border. He said India had sought an end to cross border firing in the series of conversations with Pakistani authorities during the last two days, but there is no positive response. <br/> <br/>Replying to a query over the National Security Advisor level talks, Mr Jaishankar said, it was decided that talks will take place but timing is not yet decided.<br/> <br/>Asked whether Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Pakistan, Mr Jaishankar said, at present the focus of India is on normalizing the border situation. Mr Modi had accepted the invitation by his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif at Ufa in Russia last week. <br/><br/>The Foreign Secretary clarified that the picture of drone in question shows that it is not of Indian design or available in Indian armed forces' inventory. He said it appears to be of Chinese make. <br/><br/>There were reports of an alleged Indian drone infiltrating Pakistani airspace and the Pakistan army had shot down the drone and claimed that it was aimed at spying.
