India will not fire first bullet along border: Rajnath Singh tells Pakistan

Indian forces will not fire the first bullet along the international border. Home Minister Rajnath Singh today conveyed this to the visiting delegation of Pakistan Rangers that India wants friendly relations with all its neighbours. The delegation of Pakistan Rangers, headed by Major General Umar Farooq Burki called on the Home Minister at his office in New Delhi.

The Home Minister further said that Pakistani Rangers should ensure that no infiltration takes place from their side. He also said both India and Pakistan must unite against the menace of terrorism. Mr Singh said India wanted to engage in dialogue with Pakistan at different levels and that is why Prime Minister Narendra Modi had recently met his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif at Ufa in Russia.

In his response, Burki told Mr Singh that he was the mere DG of a force and not the leadership like the Home Minister and cannot not give any commitment in this regard. Mr Burki, however, said that he will convey Singh's message to the Pakistani leadership.

Later, in the day, Border Security Force (BSF) Director General D K Pathak told reporters that the talks with the Pakistani delegation were cordial, pragmatic and forward-looking. DG Pathak said all issues have been resolved during the meeting. The meeting continued for the second day today. Concluding Session and Signing of Joint Record of Discussions between the DG BSF and DG Pakistan Rangers will take place tomorrow.
