India will be central part of any reform of UNSC: US

The US has said India will be central part of any consideration of reform and expansion of the UN Security Council, the most powerful wing of the world body.Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs William Burns told this to reporters in Washington at a special White House news conference on India. He said, the United States recognises the significance of looking at ways to adapt international architecture, including the UN Security Council, to reflect the realities of the 21st century. Mr Burns said, America wants to approach that challenge in a way that strengthens the effectiveness of the Security Council. Deputy National Security Adviser for Strategic Communication Ben Rhodes said on the occasion that India was already given a greater voice in G-20 and some other bodies. Early this month, India was elected as one of the non-permanent membership of the UN Security Council for a two-year term beginning January 2011.
