India vs Australia, 3rd Test: Australia 259/5 at stumps on Day One

Australia were 259 for five in their first innings against India at close on the opening day of the Third Test match in Melbourne today. Electing to bat, skipper Steven Smith again proved to be the main tormentor for the visitors as he anchored the innings to remain undefeated on 72 at stumps. The Australians ran away with the first morning honours, scoring 92 for 1. India fought back in the post lunch session by grabbing four wickets. For India, Mohammed Shami and Umesh Yadav claimed two wickets each while R.Ashwin took one . Australia lead the four match series 2-nil. The Test match beginning today is also known as the Boxing Day Test in Australia and is played in Melbourne involving their national cricket team and opposing national team touring Australia during summer falling between December and February. Boxing Day is a holiday traditionally celebrated following Christmas day, when servants and trades people would receive gifts known as Christmas box from their bosses or employers in several countries, including Australia.
