New Delhi has said that India is vibrant democracy which fully respects rule of law and human rights. Replying to questions on the proposed debate on Human Rights in Indian subcontinent, a spokesperson of the External Affairs Ministry said that India has taken due note of the debate.
He however said that this is an initiative of the back bencher MPs and does not reflect the position of the UK Government. He added that civil rights and freedoms are enshrined in the Indian constitution as fundamental rights and are exercised by each and every citizen of the country.
