India, US sign agreement to tame terrorism

India and the United States today signed an agreement on counter terrorism cooperation initiative. The initiative seeks to further strengthen cooperation combating terrorism as an important part of their strategic partnership. The initiative which was signed by the Home Secretary Mr. G.K. Pillai and the US Ambassador to India, Mr. Timothy Roemer includes cooperation in strengthening capabilities, exchanges between the two countries on modernisation of techniques, sharing of best practices and development of investigative skills. It also envisages cooperation between forensic science laboratories, capabilities to act against money laundering, counterfeit currency and financing of terrorism. It also calls for increasing exchanges between Coast Guards and Navy, expertise on Port and Border security as well as training between specialist counter terrorism units, including NSG with its US counterparts.
