India, US pledge to deepen bilateral ties to capitalise fully on economic opportunities

India and US today vowed to deepen bilateral and multilateral engagement in order to fully capitalise on economic opportunities in the two countries. In a joint statement issued at the conclusion of the second India-US Economic and Financial Partnership meeting at Washington, Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee and US Treasury Secretary Timothy said, they discussed the challenges that both economies face in ensuring a strong recovery and price stability in the short term. They said that the range of policies necessary to reach growth at their full potential domestically was also discussed. The statement further said that the United States and India will work together to expand trade and investment links between the two economies, and to develop and strengthen their financial systems. Besides, the two countries will work together in the G-20 on an effective mutual assessment process to bring about strong, sustained, and balanced global growth.
