India, US discuss security issues

India and United States discussed a wide range of issues including security cooperation to deepen the strategic partnership. National Security Adviser M K Narayanan met with his US counterpart General James Jones in Washington and exchanged views on a number of subjects of mutual interest and concerns. Mr Narayanan is understood to have met other officials of the Obama administration handling intelligence and national security matters, besides terrorism. The meeting comes ahead of Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh's visit to the United States next month. Spokesman of the National Security Council Mike Hammer said the focus of the meeting of National Security Advisors was certainly to make excellent preparations for a successful State visit later in November. Dr Singh is scheduled to meet Obama in the White House on 24th of November 24, the first state visit of the new US administration. Under the new framework of Indo-US relationship, spelled out by the Secretary of State Hillary Clinton during her trip to India early this year, cooperation in combating terrorism
is one of the key pillars of the relationship between the two countries.
Mr Narayanan and Jones had first met in London in April on the sidelines of the G-20 Summit.
