The situation in Afghanistan and co-operation in combating terrorism came up for discussion between the visiting US Defence Secretary, Robert Gates and Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh. <br/><br/>Mr. Gates, who is on a two day visit to India, also met External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna amidst a desire by the United States to step up military co-operation. <br/><br/>AIR correspondent quoting official sources reports that during the meeting Mr Gates is understood to have provided his assessment of the challenge posed by terrorism emanating from the Pakistan and Afghanistan region. <br/><br/>AIR correspondent reports that enhancing Defence ties is the priority of both the sides.
