As India remains one of the largest suppliers of pharmaceutical products to Sri Lanka, the Indian High Commissioner Mr Ashok K Kantha in his meeting with the Sri Lankan Health Minister Nimal Sripala de Silva has requested to review the ban imposed by Sri Lanka on certain Indian pharmaceutical companies recently.A press statement by the Indian High Commission said that the relevant Indian companies will cooperate with the Sri Lankan government in all possible ways desired for a satisfactory redressal of alleged lapses.Some of the Indian pharmaceutical company had been earlier banned by the Sri Lankan authorities on the alleged supply of sub standard medicines to the island nation.The High Commissioner also suggested that a visit of an Indian pharmaceutical delegation take place to Sri Lanka to discuss these issues and to create appropriate long term bilateral mechanisms with relevant Sri Lankan authorities.He suggested that the delegation could also discuss possibilities of investments in this sector in Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka has welcomed the suggestion of the High Commissioner and agreed to receive the Indian delegation
