India-UAE Trade policy forum should be made more active: India

The India has proposed that the India-UAE Trade policy forum set up by the two countries to facilitate bilateral trade should be made more active and more investment from the UAE in India especially in the infrastructural areas was requested. This was proposed during UAE-India Political Consultation Committee meeting in Abu Dhabi, which was jointly presided over by UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Dr Anwar Mohammed Gargash, and Secretary (East) in the Indian Ministry of External Affairs Vijaya Latha Reddy yesterday.According to a statement of Indian Embassy, Abu Dhabi, issued today, the high level consultations reviewed the current state of bilateral relations between India and the UAE. Expressing satisfaction on the friendly relations based on historic links. Both sides agreed to intensify exchange of high-level visits between the two countries to consolidate the excellent relations at the political level. In this context they underscored the need for early convening of the Ministerial level India-UAE Joint Commission meeting which last met in 2007.While discussions were focused on UAE investments in the aviation, ports, telecommunications and oil and gas sectors, the two sides reviewed the current status of proposed agreements, such as the Security cooperation Agreement, Agreement on transfer of sentenced persons, Agreement on Mutual Assistance on Customs Matters and agreed to expedite the conclusion of these agreements.Expressing satisfaction at the growth of trade and economic links between the two countries, which had become largest trading partners for each other, both sides also exchanged views on major regional and global issues, including the middle-east peace process, reform of the United Nations Organisation and reconstruction efforts in Afghanistan.The two sides acknowledged the positive role of the Indian community in the development of India-UAE relations and the Indian side thanked the UAE side for protecting the welfare of the Indian community.
