Prime Minister Narendra Modi today stated that India is tying up with other countries for development of sports. Felicitating the medal winners of Incheon Asian Games in New Delhi today, he rued, that sports persons have not geared up themselves to compete globally. He urged the sports persons to feel free to give their suggestions to him, and to call on him personally if they have anything specific to talk about. The Prime Minister said no country can go forward without self-respect and pride and the sportsperson's achievements in the Asian Games have brought respect and pride for all Indians. Mr Modi said the sports scenario in the country is gradually improving with states focusing on specific sports and setting up Sports Universities. He said that the corporate world is now coming forward to promote specific sports, and it augurs well for the future. Mr Modi said India has a long history of sports, and a sports stadium has been discovered in the archaeological site of Dholavira near Kutch. He added that ancient texts like the Ramayana and Mahabharata also show focus on physical activities as part of education. The Prime Minister said award-winning sports persons who can speak well, should deliver talks in Universities, to inspire youth.
