India and Turkmenistan today signed five agreements to enhance bilateral trade and cooperation. These include agreement on economic and trade cooperation, agreement on scientific and technological cooperation, education exchange programme, cooperation in the fields of culture, art, tourism, science, education, mass media and sports besides inter governmental agreement on mutual exemption of visas for diplomatic passport holders. The agreement were signed in New Delhi following delegation level talks between the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and the visiting President of Turkmenistan Mr.Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. Both the leaders also discussed issues of mutual interest in various sectors. They are also understood to have discussed Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India , Tapi, gas pipleline project for transfer of gas . Our correspondent reports that the projects valued at four billion dollars, though long been discussed by the concerned governments and engergy companies ,is hanging due to instability in Afghanistan and reluctance on the part of Pakistan.
