Several important agreements in the field of health and education are likely to be signed during the visit of the Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago Mrs. Kamla Persad Bissessar, who is on 10 day state visit to India. She is accompanied by a high level Ministerial and Business delegation.
Briefing to media persons in New Delhi, External Affairs Ministry spokesman Syed Akbaruddin said that during her visit agreements on Culture, Cooperation in Technical education and traditional medicines and Aayush are likely to be signed.
He said it will provide further widening the scope of ties between India and Trinidad and Tobago, whose population includes 42 per cent of the people of Indian origin. Mr. Akbaruddin said, rich in oil and gas, Trinidad and Tobago has attracted interest of several Indian companies like ESSAR, Reliance, Indraprashtha Gas Ltd and others for investment in the sector.
The spokesperson said relations between India and Trinidad and Tobago are time-tested and based on strong historical and cultural linkages. Mr. Akhbaruddin said Mrs. Bissessar is the first woman of Indian origin who is heading a government.
AIR correspondent reports that Mrs. Bissessar is the Chief Guest during this year’s Pravasi Bhartiya Divas being held in Jaipur from 7 of this month. She will be conferred Pravasi Bhartiya Samman in Jaipur. Besides Delhi and Jaipur, the she will also visit Jodhpur, Kolkata and Mumbai. She will also visit her ancestral village in Buxar district of Bihar.
