New Delhi will take-up with United Kingdom any case of students not getting their entitled fee refund on courses they could not pursue because of London's decision to suspend temporarily Visa applications from three North Indian centres. Replying to supplementaries in the Rajya Sabha today, the External Affairs Minister Mr S M Krishna said that the Visas from three centre were suspended after over six fold increase in the Visa application from New Delhi, Jallandhar and Chandigarh. He assured the House that New Delhi will take up with the U K Government any hardship faced by the students. He said that the British authorities have agreed to accept Visa for students from these three centres who want to study higher education courses. The Minister said the restriction imposed by the British authorities is a temporary phenomenon. He said the temporary suspension, however, remains in place for those wanting to study at lower levels. The minister said there were 13,500 Visa applications in 2009 as against mere 1800 Visa application in the last quarter of 2008. The Minister assured the members that the U K government will not come on the way of genuine students from India, who want to pursue higher education in that country.
