India to take appropriate decision on U.N. resolution on Human rights violations in Lanka

The Centre will take an appropriate decision on the U.N. resolution on Human rights violations in Sri Lanka after considering all aspects of the issue.

Giving this assurance in New Delhi, Minister of State in Prime Minister's Office, V. Narayanasamy told news persons that the resolution is coming before the UN Human Rights Council and then discussions will take place. Later, the draft will be circulated.

He drew the attention to the assurance given by Prime minister Manmohan Singh and the Law Minister in Parliament and said the government is committed to the protection of Srilankan Tamils.

Narayasamy said, DMK Chief Karunanidhi has mentioned the sensitiveness of the issue and the Prime Minister will take a call as and when required, considering all the aspects.

Meanwhile, DMK President Karunanidhi has again stressed for an independent international probe into the alleged war crimes committed by Sri Lankan Forces against Tamils in the last phase of the war with LTTE in Sri Lanka.

He urged the Centre to take efforts to bring in amendments in the US sponsored resolution in the UN Human Rights Council for an independent international probe.

Speaking to newspersons in Chennai, the DMK Chief said that the Centre had not expressed any decision on the resolution openly.

Asked whether he had set a time frame for the centre to act, he said that his party had strongly emphasised that a decision should be taken to enable an independent probe in to the violations.

Other political parties of Tamil Nadu have also appealed to the Government of India to support US resolution in Geneva.
