India to send magistrate to record Headley's statement

<br/>India has decided to send a magistrate to the United States to record L-e-T operative, David Headley's statements which could be admissible as evidence in a court in India. According to official sources, a request letter for access to Headley who has admitted to his role in Mumbai terror attacks will be sent by the Home Ministry next week to the US Department of Justice. A magistrate will be sent whenever the US grants permission for direct access to him to record his statement. Besides, a magistrate, lawyers and officials of Mumbai Police and National Investigation Agency will form part of the team, which will question the Headley. The NIA which is probing the case will file the chargesheet against him only after having a direct access to him. Under the plea bargain agreement, India can have access to Headley by deposition, video conferencing or through letters Rogatory. Sources say, India will like to explore all the three options. It may be recalled that Headley had recently pleaded guilty to all the twelve charges of conspiracy involving bombing public places in India, murdering and maiming persons and providing material support to foreign terrorist plots and Pakistan-based L-e-T, besides aiding and abetting the murder of six US citizens in the 26/11 attacks.
