India to repatriate 31 Pak fishermen

India will repatriate thirty one Pakistani fishermen to their country via the Attari border today. An External affairs ministry statement said, Pakistan had confimed the nationality of the fishermen being released. The freeing of the remaining nineteen Pakistani fishermen, whose nationality has been confirmed by Pakistan, is under process and is expected to materialize soon. New Delhi hoped that Islamabad will take necessary steps at the earliest to release more than 500 Indian fishermen and over 400 Indian fishing boats still in Pakistan’s custody. Meanwhile, the Pakistani Marine Security Agency has released nine fishermen who were detained for straying in to international waters. The move came as a surprise to the fishermen who were detained three days ago. The release of these fishermen comes in the wake of Pakistan Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani's decision to free 100 out of 631 indian fishermen languishing in Pakistani Jails since December 2008.
