The government today said that India will take lead in providing platform for renewable energy sector. After two day International Seminar on Energy Access, the secretary in the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Gireesh B Pradhan said, the draft of the outcome of seminar was accepted by all the participants.
Talking to media he said the decision was taken to set up an international mechanism to facilitate research and development in energy access and renewable ennergy technologies in the public domain to allow access to such technologies at affordable prices.
Mr Pradhan said technological advances should be promoted through research and development and strengthening of relevant regional, national and local institutions for sustainable development.
He said during 11th Plan period 600 crores rupees were provided for the renewable energy and now in 12th plan period it will be doubled.
AIR correspondent reports about 42 countries participated of which 23 ministers in the ministerial level delegation included the Prime Minister of Guiana, Deputy Prime Minister of Mauritius and other senior Ministers. During the two day seminar, India had bilateral meetings with 14 countries and most of them have sought for cooperation in various areas of renewable energy.
