India will press for early adoption of Comprehensive convention against terrorism at the UN General Assembly session beginning in New York tomorrow. Sources in the Ministry of External Affairs said, difference of opinion on the definition of terrorism has been narrowed down and hardly 15 countries have now reservations on it. New Delhi is hopeful that these differences will be resolved in the current session to enable an effective instrument in place to deal with the menace of terrorism. Sources said that India will also take up vigorously the reforms in the UN Security Council for with New Delhi a strong contender for becoming a permanent member. It will also seek support being elected as a non permanent member in the Security Council for 2011-12. External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna, who is representing India for the second time in the Assembly, has been joined by Minister of Environment and Information Technology besides foreign secretary. External Affairs Minister has a hectic schedule in New York as he is scheduled to have a number of multilateral and bilateral meetings. Among the important bilateral meetings is his interaction with the US secretary of state and Foreign Minister of France.Krishna will attend 14 multilateral meetings on the sidelines. These includes the SAARC Foreign ministers' gathering, G-77 foreign ministers' meeting, as well as those of BRIC, India, Brazil and South Africa Group IBSA, Russia, India and China and Commonwealth nations.
