India to lock horns with Ireland in quarterfinals of Women's Hockey World Cup in London

India will lock horns with Ireland in the quarterfinals of the Women's Hockey World Cup in London tonight. The Indian eves had defeated Italy 3-0 in the playoffs to book a place in the last-8 of the World Cup for the first time since 1978.

They had finished seventh in that edition, which was held in Madrid.

In the ongoing tournament, before beating Italy on Tuesday, India had finished the group stage at the third spot in Pool-B.

Ireland were in the same group and had defeated India, 1-0 before ending as table toppers and directly qualifying to the quarterfinals.

In the other quarterfinal scheduled for today, England will meet the Netherlands.Yesterday, Australia and Spain won their last-8 matches and advanced to the semi-finals.

The semifinals will be played on Saturday, with the Final slated for Sunday.
