India to host Conference on Tobacco Control tomorrow

India is hosting the 7th Session of the Conference of Parties to World Health Organization Framework Convention on Tobacco Control from tomorrow at Greater Noida adjoining the national capital.<br/><br/>Union Health J P Nadda will inaugurate the six day conference.<br/><br/>The WHO FCTC is the first global evidence-based public health treaty that recognises the right of all people to the highest standard of health. The Treaty was developed by countries in response to the globalization of the tobacco epidemic. More form our correspondent.<br/><br/>More than 1500 delegates from 180 countries are expected to participate in the conference. <br/><br/>The conference provides an opportunity to the participating countries to share their best practices to control tobacco consumption. <br/><br/>Tobacco causes death of nine lakh Indians every year resulting in an economic loss of over one lakh core rupees. <br/><br/>To discourage use of tobacco, India has made it mandatory for displaying pictorial health warnings at 85 per cent area of the packeged tobacco products. The conference which is being hosted by India reflects its strong commitment towards international co-operation and awareness on tobacco control.
