Prime Minister Narendra Modi has assured that India will extend all possible assistance to Sri Lanka in response to latter's request for emergency petroleum shipments. <br/><br/>This was conveyed by Prime Minister to Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena during a telephonic conversation on Wednesday evening. The assurance came as Sri Lanka is facing shortage of petrol and long queues are seen at petrol sheds for last six days.<br/><br/>A statement issued by Indian High Commission in Colombo said a petrol shipment of 21000 Metric tons has already left from India to meet the shortfall and additional shipments will be arranged, if necessary. <br/><br/>It said that additional petrol is also being made available at Kochi refinery for shipment. India has been assisting Sri Lanka in emergency situations including flood and drought to help it overcome crisis. India has also provided development assistance of more than 1.5 billion US dollars after end of LTTE war.
