India to begin test series against England at Nottingham today

The Indian Cricket Team plays after 55 years in a five Test match series as the long English summer begins today. It is a transitional phase for India as well as England as both teams are rebuilding. Both the skippers Dhoni and Cook are fighting their own battles as they square up in the series. Last time around in 2011 it was a humiliating series whitewash for India. This time the team would be looking to wipe off past scars and reverse their poor overseas record. For India is devoid of experience but propped up by a confident bunch of youngsters, who posses shades of Sachin Tendulkar in Virat Kohli, The Wall– Rahul Dravid in Cheteshwar Pujara and wristy batsman VVS Laxman in Rohit Sharma. Bowling still remains a question with the spin department mainly revolving around R Ashwin. For England, cricketers who really shone in those encounters are either suffering from poor form or fatigue — Alastair Cook, Stuart Broad, James Anderson — while some — Kevin Pietersen, Graeme Swann and Jonathan Trott — have vanished from the scene altogether. With statistics favouring England completely, India would be looking to bite the bullet upfront. The first Cricket Test of the five-match series between India and England begins at Nottingham today. All India Radio will broadcast live commentary on all the five days of the match. The commentary can be heard on FM Gold and Rajdhani channels from 3.20 PM.
