India to become world's largest automobile market in next five years: Union Minister Nitin Gadkari

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari has said country could become the world's largest automobile market in the next five years, with a likely rapid proliferation of electric cars and vehicles run on "flex-fuel" engines. Speaking at an event in Mumbai yesterday, the Transport Minister called for decongestion of Indian roads. The minister also highlighted the need to develop import substitute cost-effective, pollution-free, and indigenous technology asserting that sustainable development is the ultimate goal.<br />'' <br />''Speaking about sustainable initiatives, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari stressed on the use of bitumen in the construction of road projects.<br />'' <br />''<span style="color: #222222;">He further added that market demand for bitumen is around 80 lakh tonnes of which refinery capacity is 50 lakh tonnes and 30 lakh tonnes has to be procured from the farmers. He added that this could give a turnover of Rs 35,000 crore from rural and agricultural India.</span><br />
