India to abstain from voting at resolution calling for int’l inquiry of Human Rights violation in Lanka

India’s Ambassador at the United Nations Human Rights Council, Dilip Sinha has announced at the debate in Geneva that India will abstain from voting at the US sponsored resolution. It calls for international inquiry on allegations of human rights violations in Sri Lanka.
Ambassador Sinha said that international inquiry is intrusive and undermines national sovereignty.
India had supported the US resolutions during the last two years, but this time the resolution went further and has sought an international probe under the UN High Commissioner on Human Rights. Voting on the resolution will take place later today.
