Defending Champions India began their campaign for the Under 19 Asia Cup Cricket Championship in style defeating the host UAE by 189 runs in the opening match at Sharjah. Batting first India piled up a huge score of 320 for the loss of four wickets in the stipulated 50 overs. Opener Akhil Herwadekar hit 101 runs off 121 deliveries with ten boundaries and a six. He was ably supported by fellow opener Bains who made 77 runs off 85 deliveries. Sanju Samson made a quick fire 65 off just 47 balls. In reply UAE were bundled out for 131 runs. India plays Nepal in the second match today. Nepal lost out to Pakistan in their opening encounter in Dubai by 132 runs.In a sensational start to the tournament, Afghanistan defeated Sri Lanka by three wickets in Abu Dhabi. Put into bat first, Sri Lanka were restricted to 191. Afghanistan scored the required 192 runs for the loss of seven wickets and 15 balls to spare. In another match, Bangladesh trounced Malaysia by nine wickets.
