In a novel scheme, India is talking to oil rich countries in the Middle East for a possible swap of crude oil for food. Speaking to reporters in New Delhi Friday, Oil Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said that talks at the highest level have been initiated with the UAE for an oil-for-food programme and similar dialogue is on with other oil exporters. Mr.Pradhan said that oil rich countries can invest in India's strategic oil storages and can also store their oil in them. The condition being that the first right of use on two-third of oil stored would be of India, he added. He said UAE's national oil company Adnoc has already agreed to the initiative.India, the world's third biggest oil consumer, imports 80 per cent of its oil needs. About 60 per cent of the oil imports are from Middle East nations.
