India have taken 44 runs first innings lead with eight wickets still intact against Sri Lanka in the Galle Cricket Test. Resuming the play at the overnight score of 128 for 2 this morning India were 227 for 2 at lunch. Shikhar Dhawan was playing on 110 and skipper Virat Kohli on 86. Hosts Sri Lanka were bowled out for 183 on the first day yesterday. Spinner R. Ashwin registered his best away bowling figures of 6 for 46 . Skipper Angelo Mathews top scored with 64, while Dinesh Chandimal made 59. Veteran wicket keeper-batsman Kumara Sangakkara, who is playing his penultimate Test, could only make 5.This is the opening Test of the 3-match series, and Sangakkara will retire after the second game which will be played in Colombo from the 20th of this month.
