India-Switzerland sign Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement

?A protocol amending the existing agreement on Avoidance of Double Taxation between India and Switzerland was signed in New Delhi on Monday. Switzerland is entering into revised tax pacts with many countries in accordance with OECD's Model Tax Convention, to facilitate the bilateral exchange of information related to bank account details of tax evaders. The Indians are alleged to have assets worth billions of dollars in banks in Switzerland. The revised Double Taxation Agreement contains provisions on the exchange of information in accordance with the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development, OECD, standard. The protocol was signed by the Finance Minister Mr. Pranab Mukherjee and the Swiss Federal Council Foreign Minister Ms Micheline Calmy-Rey. Ms Micheline arrived in New Delhi last night on a two-day visit to India.
