India today successfully test-fired the super-sonic BrahMos cruise missile from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Chandipore off Odisha coast. The 290-km range missile was test-fired from launch complex number 3 of ITR at 11 this morning. This is part of trials by the Indian defence forces to fine-tune its capability. BrahMos missile can fly 2.8 times the speed of sound carrying conventional warheads up to 300 kg. It has a weight of 3,000 kg with length of 8.1 meter and width 0.6 meter. BrahMos missile, jointly developed by India and Russia, is capable of being launched from multiple platforms like submarines, ships, aircrafts and land based mobile autonomous launchers. The missile was test-fired last time on 5th September this year from the ITR, Chandipore.About 400 familes living nearby areas of ITR, Chandipore, were temporarily displaced for today’s test-firing of BrahMos. Senior officials of Defence Research Development Organisation (DRDO) and defence officials were present during test-firingof the BrahMos.
