Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh has said that due to rapid increase in fisheries and aquaculture, the income of fish farmers is constantly increasing. Speaking on the occasion of World Fisheries Day in New Delhi today, Mr Singh said, with 14.8 per cent average annual growth rate, India stood first in the world in the export of fisheries products. He said, development of the livestock is the best strategy for doubling the farmers' income. The Minister said that in fish production, India is constantly at the second position after China. He said, fisheries are a big sector in the country and around one crore 50 lakh people are engaged in fisheries business. <br/><br/>India has first place in the world in the area of shrimp fish and it is the largest exporter of shrimp fish. Mr Singh said in the last two and half years, Centre has constantly made new schemes in the interests of fisheries sector and has implemented them successfully throughout the country. The Minister said, under fishermen welfare, nine thousand 603 fishermen houses have been constructed and over 20 thousand fishermen have been trained.
