India- Sri Lanka to strengthen bilateral cooperation in tourism

India and Sri Lanka on Wednesday agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation in tourism sector particularly in the light of the MoU signed in 2004 between the two countries. The Minister for Economic Development of Sri Lanka Basil Rajpaksa met Tourism and Housing and Poverty Alleviation Minister Kumari Selja in New Delhi and discussed matters relating to tourism, housing and urban poverty alleviation. During their hour-long meeting, Selja expressed happiness over the fact that India receives a sizable number of tourists from Sri Lanka and Buddhist sites in India are the most favored destinations with travellers from Sri Lanka. Selja said India and Sri Lanka can undertake joint promotion and marketing to increase tourist arrivals in the region.
