India and Sri Lanka today signed a treaty on mutual legal assistance in criminal matters. A MoU on transfer of sentenced prisoners was also inked. Five other pacts were signed after the delegation level talks between the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and the visiting Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa in New Delhi. <br/><br/>They focus on expanding the cooperation various sectors including small development projects, Interconnection of electricity of grids Conustruction of Tallaimanner -Madhu Railway line and the setting up of women's trade facilitation centre in Sri Lanka. <br/><br/>AIR correspondent reports that the talks lasted for more than one and a half hour in which a range of issues came up for discussion. <br/><br/>They include review of the rahbltation package given by India for displaced Tamils in the island nation, cooperation in the energy sector and line of credit for development projects in Srilanka. Political solution to the ethnic issue is believed to have come up for discussions in the talks.<br/><br/>Mr Rajapaksa who arrived in Delhi on a four day visit last evening, said after he was accorded a ceremonial reception that his visit will help forge greater economic ties between the two countries.<br/><br/>The finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee and the External affairs minister held separate meeting with the visiting president. UPA Chairperson Mrs. Sonia Gandhi and the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Mrs. Sushma Swaraj will call on the visiting dignitary to exchange views on issues of mutual interest. <br/><br/>The President Mrs. Pratibha Devisingh Patil is hosting a banquet in the honour of the visiting President this evening. Before leaving back home he will also visit Chandigarh and Shimla. <br/><br/>
