India today signed a MoU with Sri Lanka to establish a Seed Testing Laboratory at Gannoruwa in the Central Province.<br/><br/>The Laboratory is being set up as part of India’s ongoing cooperation within the ambit of SAARC and as a follow up of decisions taken by Heads of States and Governments of SAARC countries at the 14th SAARC Summit in New Delhi on cooperation among SAARC countries to ensure food security.<br/><br/>India would supply seed testing equipment and seed testing laboratory materials at a cost of 19.5 million Sri Lankan rupees and train two technicians from Sri Lanka in India to maintain the Seed Testing Laboratory.<br/><br/>The MOU was signed by Mr. Vikram Misri, Deputy High Commissioner of India and Mrs. Jinadarie de Soyza, Director General of Agriculture in the Ministry of Agriculture Development and Agrarian Services of Sri Lanka.
