India, Sri Lanka holding joint military exercise near Colombo

India and Sri Lanka are holding a joint military exercise at Ambepussa near capital Colombo to enhance capability in counter terror operations. A press statement by Sri Lankan army said the joint exercise named 'Mitra Shakti 2016' began on Monday and will conclude on November 6th. This is the fourth edition of the exercise and is held every year alternatively in India and Sri Lanka. The Indian Army contingent is represented by a platoon from the Rajputana Rifles and the Sri Lankan Army has a platoon from the Sinha Regiment. Mitra Shakti series of bilateral exercises has been one of the major defence cooperation initiatives between India and Sri Lanka since 2013.
