India have set a target of 282 runs for Australia in the first One Day International at Chennai. Electing to bat after winning the toss, the hosts recovered after losing half the side with only 87 on the board in the 22nd over. They made 281 for 7 in the stipulated 50 overs.After Kedar Jadhav's exit for 40 at that stage, a sixth-wicket partnership of 118 runs between M S Dhoni and Hardik Pandya, helped India stage a fine recovery. Pandya made a hurricane 83 off 66 balls, while Dhoni was out for 79. Bhuvanesh Kumar remained unbeaten on 32. After the completion of Indian innings, showers have delayed the start of the Australian innings at the M A Chidambaram Stadium. The visitors were to begin batting at 6 PM IST but mild showers have kept the players in the pavilion.
