Ready to extend all possible help immediately to Japan, India is sending first plane-load of blankets today. In a tweeter Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao said, the issue was discussed with Japanese Ambassador in Delhi and it was felt this is the most useful and needed item in view of the cold weather conditions in affected areas. Ms. Rao is in constant touch with Indian embassy officials in Tokyo and also Japanese officials in Delhi regarding their requirements. MEA officials also said that governments of Haryana and Punjab are helping in procuring large quantity of woollen blankets.
