India seeks UAE support to meet energy demands: Krishna

The External Affairs Minister S.M.Krishna has said his visit to UAE has been productive and fruitful. He sought the UAE's support in meeting India’s energy demands and called for investments by the UAE in India. Mr. Krishna presided over the 10th round of India-UAE Joint Commission meeting during which two agreements were signed.

At a press conference in Abu Dhabi after the Joint Commission meeting, the External Affairs Minister said energy security is a priority area and India looks forward to UAE for meeting its growing energy requirements. Shri Krishna also sought UAE investment in the infrastructure sector in India.

The UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Nahyan said ,UAE considers India as its strategic partner and will continue to expand its ties. Mr. Nahyan will visit New Delhi next month. During Mr. Krishna’s visit, 10th round of JCM on trade and economic co-operation was held after a gap of five years. Agreement on amendments in the avoidance of double taxation treaty and setting up of a joint committee on consular issues was signed.

Shri Krishna took stock of developments in the region and their implications for India with eight Indian Ambassadors from the gulf region.. He met Indian workers and interacted with Indian community representatives in Abu Dhabi. Mr. Krishna urged the embassies in gulf region to address the concerns of the people in timely and pro active manner.
